Callanwolde Fine Arts Center
Callanwolde Fine Arts Center may be a non-profit community arts center located 2 miles east of midtown Atlanta on Briarcliff Road. The property consists of twelve fantastically landscaped acres tucked between the Virginia-Highland and Druid Hills neighborhoods. The middle itself may be a twenty 7,000 sq. foot Gothic Tudor vogue mansion that was completed in 1920. Callanwolde was the house of Howard Candler, son of Coke founder Asa Candler. Howard Candler served as president of Coke from 1916-1923. The mansion was designed by Henry Hornbostel, who designed several of the buildings at nearby Emory University. The expansive grounds carry with it formal gardens, spacious lawns, nature trails, a rock garden, and a conservatory. Callanwolde is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house and grounds are maintained by DeKalb County.
The mission of Callanwolde is to preserve, restore, and develop the Callanwolde estate, and to be a premier public participatory arts and cultural center. Callanwolde offers a good type of categories for adults and kids within the visual arts, literary arts, and performing arts. The middle conjointly partners with Community Outreach Programs to bring visual and performing arts to disadvantaged communities within the metro Atlanta space.
Each year the middle presents Christmas at Callanwolde, which has become an Atlanta vacation tradition. The mansion is elaborately adorned for the vacation season by a number of Atlanta’s prime interior designers. The Battle of the Ice can feature elaborate ice sculptures in an exceedingly competition of ice carving skills. Christmas at Callanwolde hours are weekdays and Saturdays from 10am-4pm, and Sundays from 11am-4pm. Special Wednesday evening hours are 4-9pm for Cabaret Nights entertainment.
